The WA Aboriginal Legal Service has urged police to improve their relations with the Indigenous community after a police officer charged with murdering a Yamatji woman he shot dead was found not guilty.

The police officer, 31, whose identity has been suppressed, had been on trial in the Supreme Court for the past three weeks accused of unjustifiably killing 29-year-old JC in September 2019.

He was one of eight officers who had responded to a report of a woman holding a knife on a suburban street.
