Stargazers across the globe will be treated to a spectacular lunar event as the Strawberry Moon rises on Wednesday.

Peaking at 3:43pm Perth time, this full moon will be the closest to Earth this year, making it appear larger and brighter.

While no special equipment is required and West Aussies can simply gaze up at the night sky, there are a few tips to keep in mind to make the most of the experience.

Matt Woods from Perth Observatory recommends casting an eye at the moon between 6pm and 7pm as it rises into the darkened sky.

He said the full moon can be seen from most spots across WA, as long as the weather plays ball.

“People can look out from their front and backyards, it just has to be clear, so the weather has got to be good with no obstructions,” he said.
