"Distressing" is how charity group Mission Australia describes the results of its new survey, which found that at least one in 20 young people surveyed in Australia became homeless for the first time during the pandemic.

But Moon Plimmer was not surprised.

The Perth 15-year-old, who chooses to use the pronoun they, found themself homeless for about four months in 2021.

They said COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns had forced some young people to spend more time in difficult home situations.
