India tour of Australia : No Kit Sponsor for Kohli’s team India, matter to be discussed in Apex Coun

The Indian cricket team due to tour Australia in November this year is currently without a kit sponsor. The embarrassing matter is listed in the agenda for discussion in the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Apex Council Meeting today. This perhaps is the first time that the epitome of sports advertising asset in India, i.e the Indian cricket team is without a kit sponsor. The BCCI is really concerned about the situation and will be discussing the matter in the meeting.
The kit supply rights for the Indian team have been up for grabs since global sportswear brand Nike indicated that it would not be extending its contract beyond its September expiry date. Nike had held the rights since 2006 and had requested to continue in the position at a reduced rate, but this was rejected by the BCCI. That led to an invitation to tender for the rights, but it failed to evoke any interest from the market.
