Perth is set for a comfortable beginning to 2019, while the rest of the country — including the North West of WA — is set to swelter in heatwave conditions.
On Thursday, the temperature hit 47.8 degrees in Roebourne and 47.6 degrees in Marble Bar just before 11am, with the hot weather set to continue.
Meanwhile, Perth's temperature was sitting at 25 degrees with a forecast maximum of 27.

"We're just fortunate we don't have that hot air mass over us, because we're getting that change coming through in the south west at least."
Around the nation, Melbourne was forecast to hit a maximum of 36 degrees today, with parts of northern Victorian expected to reach 44 degrees.
In Sydney, the mercury was forecast to reach 29 degrees in the city, but the Bureau of Meteorology had predicted highs of 39 in Penrith and 37 at Campbelltown.
On Boxing Day, parts of Sydney hit 40 degrees.
