UP to 1000 emergency location signs will be installed along WA’s coast in a bid to boost response times to serious incidents as the State Government moves to boost its shark mitigation policies.

Fisheries Minister Dave Kelly said the first beach emergency number signs would be erected along the Kwinana and Naval Base strip as part of a State scheme to subsidise their use.

The signs, known as BEN signs in honour of Ben Gerring who died in a shark attack while surfing near Mandurah in 2016, have a unique code to allow faster response times from emergency crews.
